becoming six {birth photography, langley bc}

I know I have mentioned it before, but one of my very favorite things that my job has given me the opportunity to do, is photograph births. It’s not something I get to do often, but a handful of times a year I get to witness a miracle. The thing with births is, they can’t really be scheduled. You can have an induction date, and guesstimate from that when baby might come. But nothing is certain. So it has happened that, even with the best of intentions, I haven’t quite made it. As in this case:o(

We planned on my being there WAY ahead of time. An induction was scheduled, I did everything I could do to make sure it worked. Then things got moved around a bit, as they often do, and I had Olympic tickets. (to couples figure skating free program… AMAZING!) But we figured, fourth baby, things will be quick. I’ll make it. So the day began. Induction complete, contractions regular, camera ready. Here is a little taste of the few hours I spent with these parents to be…again:o)

We watched the clock, but alas, baby was not in as much of a hurry as we were and I had to leave:o( and two hours later I got the text “beautiful baby boy is here”. I was sad to miss it, but happy to sneak back the next morning and capture a little of his first day with his new family of six. Here are a few of my favorites.

I have known this family for a long time. I went to high school with Samantha. We were at each others weddings, only a few weeks apart, and I have been at three two and a half:o) of her four boys births to photograph them. It has been so special to be a part of it. Sam, it has been my honor to share these times with you. I’m a little sad that you’re done ,even if you’re quite happy to be so! Meet the new and improved Chapman family:

Heartfelt congratulations to all of you. Benjamin truly is just perfect! I can’t wait for his newborn session a little later today. (you know, after the hockey game)
